Alopecia or hair loss is more common on men but there are cases among women as well. This disease is not dangerous and its causes unknown. The only problem that it might cause aside from the loss of hair is psychological to the person infected. Although no cure is known for this disease, it is still possible for the patient to grow back his hair. The length of time to re-grow the hair could take very long. One known medication for this is corticosteroids. This is an anti-inflammatory drug which could be taken orally, applied topically, or injected to the infected area. The hair follicle production is not actually attacked by alopecia. Corticosteroids limit the activity of the white blood cells which attack the hair follicles, thus the hair is allowed to grow.
