Coloring your hair is the quickest way to give your hair a dramatic change. Did you know that there are two basic types of hair dyes? Read on to find out what they are and the advantages of each.

1. Permanent. These must be mixed with hydrogen peroxide to lift hair color. The peroxide opens the hair cuticle so that the tint can penetrate the cortex and form the color. The higher the level of peroxide, the quicker and lighter the result. Can be used to effectively hide gray hair (more than 50 percent). If you regularly change your hair color (for example, going from blond to dark brown then back to blond) remember to also do deep conditioning treatments to protect your hair from damage.

2. Semi-Permanent Colors. These cannot lighten the color of your hair in the same way the permanent dyes do. You can either vary the tone within your natural highlights or go darker. The color can last up to 20 washes and will slowly fade as you shampoo. Semi-permanents are a good way to enhance your hair color and shine.
